German FM reiterates Iran deal to promote greater regional stability

Berlin, Aug 10, IRNA -- German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier reaffirmed that the Iran nuclear accord could promote gerater regional stability in the Middle East.

Speaking at a press briefing with his Saudi counterpart Adel Jubair in Berlin on Monday, Steinmeier expressed hope that the July 14 Vienna agreement could foster greater stability, ultimately resulting in the settlement of some of the conflicts, including Syria.

We hope that the Iranian nuclear deal could de-escalate some of the regional conflicts, he added.

Referring to the five-year-old Syrian civil war, Steinmeier said it was the duty of the international community to find a political solution in the
medium-term.
In the short-term, we have to find ways to de-escalate the Syrian conflict, he added.

Pointing out that the recent Vienna nuclear talks were alsothe venue for discussions on Syria, Steinmeier voiced hope that the latest US-Russian talks on Syria could yield results towards a sustainable UN initiative aimed at restoring peace to Syria.

Meanwhile, Steinmeier is scheduled to visit Riyadh and Jiddah in either September or October.
