Giant Taiwanese shipping company resumes service to Iran
TEHRAN (Tasnim) The Evergreen Marine Corporation became the first international shipping line to resume services to Iran following the conclusion of nuclear talks between Tehran and major world powers.

One of the Taiwanese companys huge freighters berthed at Irans southern port of Shahid Rajaei early on Wednesday.

The fifth-generation container ship, named Ever Legion, had set off its journey from Chinas port of Shanghai and made several port calls in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates before docking at the Iranian port.

Ebrahim Idani, director general of Hormozgan provinces Ports and Maritime Organization, had announced earlier that seven of the Taiwanese companys container ships are scheduled to crisscross between Shahid Rajaei port and the Far East on a weekly basis.

The Evergreen Marine Corp. began to offer services to Iran in 2000, but its activities came to a halt under the Western sanctions imposed on Iran over its nuclear program.

On July 14, Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) finalized the text of a lasting agreement on Tehrans nuclear program.

Dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the deal would subject the parties to comply with a series of commitments, resulting in the termination of sanctions on Iran in exchange for certain restrictions on Tehrans nuclear program during a defined period of time.
