Iran, Iraq to file Taq Kasra for World Heritage Status
TEHRAN, Aug. 02 (MNA) Iranian and Iraqi cultural heritage organizations have formed a joint committee to work for registration of Taq Kasra for World Heritage Status.

Iran and Iraq have formed a joint committee to file for World Heritage Status be bestowed to Taq Kisra, Farhad Nazari the General Manager of Registration Office of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (ICHHTO) told Mehr News Agency.

Nazari added that the measure is in line with the MoU signed between Irans ICHHTO and Cultural Heritage deputy of Iraqs Tourism Ministry.

Prior to filing for UNESCO consideration, the historic monument will be restored by Iranian experts as the Iraqi officials have planned to file Wadi al-Salaam Cemetery as the largest cemetery in the world in 2016 a year earlier than handing Taq Kisra dossier to UNESCO.

Built circa 540 AD Taq Kisra, which means Iwan of Khusrau, is a Sassanid-era Persian monument located near the modern town of Salman Pak in Iraq. Out of the ancient city of Ctesiphon it is the only visible remaining structure. The archway is the largest single-span vault of unreinforced brickwork in the world.

The capital city of the Parthian Empire and the Sasanian Empire Ctesiphon was one of the greatest cities of late ancient Mesopotamia founded in the late 120s BC.
