US secretary of state meets with Qatari Emir

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - US Secretary of State John Kerry met with the Emir of Qatar on Monday on the sidelines of his visit to the Persian Gulf state.

John Kerry met with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Monday morning ahead of a meeting with the foreign ministers from the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC).

According to Yahoo News, Kerry is scheduled to hold a press conference later in the day with Qatar's Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohammad al-Attiyah.

Kerry arrived in Doha on Sunday night to meet with the foreign ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) in an attempt to soothe their concerns over the conclusion of nuclear talks between Iran and the world powers.

Doha is playing host to a meeting between PGCC member states and the US to discuss a range of regional issues, including the Irans nuclear accord.

Kerrys trip to Qatar came after he visited Cairo where he met with Egyptian officials and held the first bilateral strategic dialogue since the start of the countrys popular uprising in 2009.

According to Reuters, Kerry once again supported the nuclear agreement during his visit to Egypt and said, There can be absolutely no question that the Vienna plan, if implemented, will make Egypt and all the countries of this region safer than they otherwise would be.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) on July 14 reached a conclusion on a lasting nuclear agreement that would terminate all sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear energy program after coming into force.
