US to help Gulf states resist 'Iranian threat' - Kerry

The United States and the Gulf countries will work together to oppose Iran's aggression in the region, the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported Wednesday, citing US Secretary of State John Kerry.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) On Monday, the UN Security Council approved a nuclear agreement betweenTehran and six world powers onlifting sanctions onIran inexchange fortightening controls overthe country's nuclear activities.

According tothe newspaper, Kerry will visit the Qatari capital ofDoha inAugust todisclose the details ofthe deal and convince Gulf partners that Iran's new international legitimacy will not jeopardize security inthe region.

"Iran will remain isolated forits support forterrorism, forits support forweapons trading, forits support forthe [Yemeni militant group] Houthis, its support for [Lebanese terrorist group] Hezbollah As long asthey continue tosupport it, there will be push-back," Kerry told the newspaper inan interview.

According tothe newspaper, Kerry said the main purpose ofthe agreement was toassist the Gulf countries instaying informed aboutIranian nuclear activities.

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), a regional union comprising Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, strongly objected the recent deal withIran.
