Thousands protest in New York against nuclear deal with Iran
The activists, consisting mainly of pro-Israel supporters, argue that the deal with Iran puts the US and its allies at risk. They also claim that the agreement is undemocratic, as the deal was put forward by President Barack Obama without congressional input.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) Thousands ofprotesters, consisting mainly ofpro-Israel supporters, gathered inTimes Square inNew York onWednesday night toprotest againstthe deal onthe Iranian nuclear program, the New York Post reported.

The protesters demanded that Congress reject the deal.

On July 14, Iran and the P5+1 group, comprising China, France, Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany, reached an agreement toensure the peaceful nature ofIran's nuclear program inexchange forthe easing ofsanctions againstthe country.

US Congress now has untilSeptember 17 todecide whether or not toapprove the deal.

Congress has been divided onthe issue, withRepublicans threatening todo their best toscrap the agreement.
The pro-Israel rally inTimes Square was coordinated bythe Jewish Rapid Response Coalition, together withseveral other Jewish organizations.The activists argue that the deal withIran puts the United States and its allies atrisk. They also claim that the agreement is undemocratic, asthe deal was put forward byObama withoutcongressional input.

Israel has long been opposed toa nuclear deal withIran because it holds that should Tehran manage tobuild or acquire nuclear weapons it will become a threat toglobal security.
