Report: Iran, Germany to hold major economic conference

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -- Iran's official news agency is reporting that Germany and the Islamic Republic will hold their first economic conference in a decade. That will to lay the groundwork for businesses in both countries to do more work in the wake of a nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

IRNA's report Monday quoted Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh as saying the conference will be held in late summer or early autumn. The last such event was held in 2002 before sanctions targeting Iran over its contested nuclear program.

The announcement came after Zanganeh met German Energy Minister Sigmar Gabriel in Tehran. Gabriel is heading a delegation of representatives from German companies.

The German delegation is the first to visit Iran after negotiators struck a deal in Vienna last week.
