Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s remarks over the possibility of attacking Iran shows that Washington is “notoriously unreliable” and has never been an honest broker in its dealing with foreign countries, a political commentator says.

“The US government has made similar sorts of deals and agreements with all kinds of countries in the past, only to renege on those agreements or completely change its mind,” Brandon Martinez told Press TV on Wednesday.

“When it comes to this specific deal with Iran, I think Washington may have some tricks up its sleeve, I don’t know if they’re being honest in coming to the negotiating table with Iran, they’ve been pursuing horrendous policies against Iran for decades,” Martinez said.

“The US has been effectively waging a covert war against Iran, both economically, politically, on the international stage, and even militarily through the sponsorship of terrorists on Iranian territory,” he added.

Martinez strongly criticized Clinton after she threatened Iran that all options, including military options, are not off the table should Tehran violate the terms of a nuclear deal with world powers.

Iran and the P5+1 group of countries -- the US, Britain, France, China, Russia and Germany -- reached a conclusion on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Tuesday.

The JCPOA will put limits on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the removal of sanctions against the Islamic Republic.

In a statement on Tuesday, the former secretary of state said she would respond to any violations immediately if elected as president next year.

“The response to any cheating must be immediate and decisive – starting with the return of sanctions but taking no options off the table, including, if necessary, our military options,” Clinton said.

Martinez said Clinton is “making it clear that she is firmly on the side of Israel and the imperialists in the Middle East, she hates this deal, she wants to sabotage this deal, and she probably will do so if she gets into office."
