Obama: Deal with Iran best guarantee of nuclear weapon absence in country

Barack Obama claims that the final comprehensive agreement between international mediators and Iran is the best guarantee that Tehran will not have nuclear weapon.



WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The final comprehensive agreement betweeninternational mediators and Iran is the best guarantee that Tehran will not have nuclear weapon, US President Barack Obama told the New York Times.

On Tuesday, a landmark deal betweenIran and the P5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and China, aimed atguaranteeing the peaceful nature ofthe Iranian nuclear program was reached.
"We are not measuring this deal bywhether it is changing the regime insideof Iran. Were not measuring this deal bywhether we are solving every problem that can be traced back toIran, whether we are eliminating all their nefarious activities aroundthe globe. We are measuring this deal byIran could not get a nuclear weapon," Obama said onTuesday.


The US president added that "this [agreement] bya wide margin is the most definitive path bywhich Iran will not get a nuclear weapon, and we will be able toachieve that withthe full cooperation ofthe world community and withouthaving toengage inanother war inthe Middle East."

The sides reached an agreement stipulating international sanctions relief inexchange forverification that Iran will not pursue a nuclear weapon followingmonths ofnegotiations.

According tothe final text ofthe nuclear agreement, Iran will underno circumstances seek todevelop or acquire a nuclear weapon. The text also claims the final deal will positively contribute toregional Middle Eastern security.
