MP: Provincial elections plan not to take effect until Majlis elections

Tehran, July 13, The Iran ProjectAn Iranian lawmaker says the plan to make parliamentary elections provincial will not come into force until Iran’s parliamentary elections in February.

Iranian lawmaker Mohammad Javad Kolivand said given the objections raised by the Guardian Council against provincial parliamentary elections plan, it cannot take effect until Iran’s parliamentary elections in February.

Kolivand further said the plan is likely to be approved by the current parliament, but it cannot come into force by the end of this year.

Secretary of Iran’s Expediency Council Mohsen Rezaei also said in June that “the plan to make parliamentary elections provincial has been removed from the general policies of the elections.”
