Mousavian: Unprecedented progress in nuclear agreement

Tehran, July 9, IRNA Seyed Hossein Mousavian, an Iranian researcher at Princeton University, says unprecedented progress have been achieved in nuclear talks between Iran and P5+1 so that the two sides are very close to a final deal.

In a joint televised talk with senior Chinese and American officials, Mousavian further remarked that quality of the final agreement is important for the two sides as all seek a good deal.

However, he noted, after five deadlines unprecedented progress have been achieved and the two sides are not far from a final agreement.

Mosavian who was previously a senior member of the negotiating team, said since the beginning the NPT had been expected to be the criterion and so far agreement has been reached on all issues relevant to NPT and Iran has even shown goodwill beyond it.

Referring to Irans agreement to enrich below 5%, he said as long as enrichment is at this level there is no possibility for building a bomb.

As for simultaneous lifting of all the sanctions, he said there is a middle option that is implementation of Irans undertakings in proportion to coordinated lifting of sanctions.

As for military sanctions, Mousavian noted that in the two Geneva and Lausanne agreements it was clearly mentioned that all the sanctions related to the nuclear issues would be lifted and this is what the Iranians stress on.

Meanwhile, Fred Fleitz, Senior Vice President of the Center for Security Policy said a deal was close as Obama has retreated from everything and is determined to make the deal.

Also speaking, Jen Chin Director of the Department of Arms Control of China said the problem is more a political challenge rather than a technical one. However, he said he was optimistic as the two sides are serious.
