Rafsanjani: Westerners need agreement more than Iran

Tehran, July 7, IRNA Chairman of the Expediency Council ( EC) said that the world has finally realized that the wisest way to deal with Iran in all cases, especially the nuclear issue, is to hold talks, respect and negotiate.

Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani made the remarks on Tuesday while addressing a local gathering here.

He said officials of Western countries are 'after preventing Iran from finding access to a nuclear weapon, while the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution has already issued a fatwa (religious decree) which declared the production and manufacturing of a nuclear bomb is 'Haram' (religiously forbidden).

Referring to the significance of the international Quds Day among Muslims, Ayatollah Rafsanjani said it is a time to demostrate public support for the oppressed people of Palestine.

Imam Khomeini (RA), the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in August 1979 declared the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day, calling on Muslims across the world to mark the annual occasion by holding street rallies.

Since then, millions of people around the world take to the streets on this day in a show of support for the people of Palestine, demanding an end to the Zionist regime's occupation of Palestinian lands.

This year, the International Quds Day falls on Friday, July 10.

'Palestinians are the most oppressed people in history, who have lived in camps for several generations and have not experienced tranquility and prosperity for years,' Ayatollah Rafsanjani said.

He urged Iranians to show their love and support for Palestinians this year and also express their hatred against Israel and most importantly against cruelty throughout the world.
