Lavrov: Most sanctions against Iran to be lifted

Major part of sanctions against Tehran would be lifted, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) According to Lavrov, the only major issue that remains unsolved is the arms embargo against Iran.

"There is an understanding that the major part of sanctions will be lifted," Lavrov told journalists in Vienna after negotiations on Irans nuclear program.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that there are less than 10 issues that need to be "polished" to reach an agreement at the talks on Iran's nuclear program.

"We stated very tangible progress. And selected eight or nine less than 10 issues which we have to polish," Lavrov told journalists.

The issues regarding the possible military dimension of the Iran's nuclear program have been resolved, Sergei Lavrov said.

"Everything that is related to the technological task to do everything necessary to eliminate the risks of proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, proliferation of technologies related to military dimension of Iranian nuclear industry have been resolved long ago."

Iran and six world powers comprising Russia, Britain, France, China, the United States and Germany are working against the clock to agree on a final nuclear deal that will have Tehran dismantle parts of its nuclear infrastructure in exchange for sanctions relief.

The Islamic republic insists its nuclear program serves peaceful purposes only. It has rejected some of key demands, saying it is against long-term freezes for nuclear research.

Iran and the P5+1 group do not give themselves artificial deadlines for reaching a deal on Tehran's nuclear program, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Tuesday.

Lavrov said that he believed that the talks on Iran's nuclear program would be over soon.

"We do not give ourselves artificial deadlines Everyone is concentrated on reaching a quality agreement," Lavrov said.

"I think that the ministers will return when there is need to once again accelerate the process," he said.

Almost all foreign ministers of the P5+1 group are leaving the Vienna talks, Lavrov added.
