IAEAs chief Amano due in Iran Thursday for nuclear talks

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano is due in Iran on Thursday for talks on Tehrans nuclear program.

An informed source close to the Iranian negotiating delegation said Wednesday that Amano will visit Iran to receive the countrys proposals on removing certain misunderstandings over the countrys nuclear program, IRNA reported.

During his stay in Iran, the IAEA chief is expected to hold talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.

Amanos visit to discuss Irans nuclear program comes as Tehran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council the United States, France, Britain, China and Russia -plus Germany are holding talks to finalize the text of a possible deal over the Islamic Republics nuclear program.

Iran and the six powers extended talks over Tehrans nuclear program for seven days after the June 30 deadline expired on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, senior Iranian nuclear negotiator Abbas Araqchi said that certain gaps still remained between Iran and the P5+1 group in drafting the text of a final deal.
