AEOI chief in Vienna to speed up nuclear talks: Spokesman

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi has traveled to Vienna to help accelerate the pace of negotiations between Iran and world powers over Tehran's nuclear energy program, AEOI spokesman said.

Behrouz Kamalvandi said on Tuesday that Mr. Salehi is in Vienna with the purpose of speeding up the process of the nuclear negotiations.

On Tuesday, Iran's foreign minister and lead negotiator, Mohammad Javad Zarif, returned to Vienna after a brief pause to proceed with talks over a lasting agreement on Tehran's nuclear energy program.

Salehi and Hossein Fereidoon, special assistance to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, have joined the country's team of negotiators in this decisive round of talks.

Salehi has rejoined the high-profile talks after recovery from an intestine surgery.

US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, a member of the American team of negotiators, paid a visit to Mr. Salehi at Vienna's Palais Coburg hotel on Tuesday and wished him good health.

Elsewhere in his comments, Kamalvandi said the negotiating parties have managed to achieve results "on the bulk of the technical subjects" in a comprehensive nuclear deal.

Since June 17, senior representatives from Iran, the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany) and the European Union have been in Vienna to finalize the text of a comprehensive nuclear deal.

On April 2, the two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, that provides outlines of the final agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
