Takfiri terrorists to plague supporters: Iranian official

A senior Iranian official has warned the countries supporting Takfiri terrorist groups, including ISIL, saying the militants will come back to haunt their sponsors.

Terrorist and Takfiri groups in the region will come back to haunt their supporters some day, and these countries should immediately stop their support [for the terrorists], said Ali Akbar Velayati, an adviser to Leaderof the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Cho Tae-yong, South Koreas First Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, in Tehran on Saturday.

Velayati, who presides overthe Center for Strategic Researchof IransExpediency Council, described ISIL as one of the most dangerous and violent Takfiri groups and said the militants pose a threat to all countries and communities, including Christians, Muslims and Jews.

The ISIL terrorist group, which has members from several Western countries, controls parts of Iraq as well as neighboring Syria, carrying out bestial crimes against different ethnic and religious communities in areas under its control.

In April, a report by FrancesSenate revealed that nearly half of European militants known to have traveled to Iraq and Syria are French.

In October 2014, a UN report also warned about the unprecedented number of foreign militants operating in Iraq and Syria.

European countries have expressed concern that foreign militants operating alongside ISIL may carry out terrorist attacks once they return home.
