Official: $26m in global aid for Iran’s environment frozen

The head of the Environment Protection Organization has said that the Global Environment Facility (GEF) has paid only $4.2m in assistance to Iran for environmental projects and suspended the remaining $26m under pressures from Western countries.

Masoumeh Ebtekar further said under global conventions protection of the environment is a common, collective responsibility [of all nations and organizations], adding the GEF has failed to stop discrimination against the Islamic Republic.

She expressed hope the diplomatic efforts could remove the problem soon and international projects can be carried out in Iran.
