Tehran, June 23, IRNA – The case of former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahamadinejad is going through its legal procedures, senior judiciary official said on Tuesday.
The announcement was made by Head of Tehran province’s justice department Gholam Hossein Esmaili who was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a local ceremony in the Iranian capital.
Esmaili underlined that Ahmadinejad’s legal case is still open.
Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that Hamid Baqaei, former vice president who was in charge of the executive affairs under Ahmadinejad, has been arrested.
Iran’s Judiciary spokesman Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei told reporters on June 8 about Baqaei’s detention without elaborating on his charges.
Baqaei is the second official from the Ahmadinejad administration who was arrested.
Mohammad Reza Rahimi, Ahmadinejad’s first vice president from 2009 to 2013, was sentenced in January 2015 to five years in prison for embezzlement.
