Iran deputy FM rejects military solution for Mideast crises

A senior Iranian diplomat has dismissedas unconstructive any military approaches to the crises in the Middle East, stressing that only dialog and cooperation can help establish lasting security in the region.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the deputy foreign minister for Arab and African affairs, made the remarks during a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir in the city of Jeddah on the sidelines of a meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Yemen.

He also called for reinforcement of political processes with respect to the ongoing developments in the region.

All will benefit from a constructive political approach as well as security in the region, Amir-Abdollahian said.

The Saudi foreign minister, for his part, underlined the need for dialog and collective cooperation among regional countries to contribute to the restoration of security in the region.

The OIC meeting to discuss the Yemeni crisis comes as Saudi Arabia has been continuing its airstrikes on the impoverished Arab country since March 26 without a UN mandate.

In its latest string of raids on Yemen, Saudi warplanes launched several airstrikes in the area of Naqim Mountain in the capital city of Sana'a on Wednesday.

The Saudi airstrikes on Yemen come amid the ongoing negotiationsin the Swiss city of Geneva over the conflict inthe Arab country.

Representatives from several Yemeni factions, including the Ansarullah movement,are attending the talks which began on Monday morning.

In addition to Saudi air raids, Yemen is also the scene of clashes popular forceswith militant groups.

The Yemeni army along with popular committees, backed by Ansarullah fighters, is battling al-Qaeda-linked groups and the ISIL Takfiri terrorists across the country.
