TEHRAN June 16(Shana)--Iran hopes to become the second largest gas producer in the world, director of planning at National Iranian Gas Company said.
Hassan Montazer Torbati said Iran is planning to raise its gas production by 71% by 2025.

He said Iran, whose annual production stands at 180 mcm/d, is currently the third largest producer of gas in the world.

The official said Iran�s gas production is to reach 400 mcm/d in four years, adding, �We are still at far distance from the third producer of gas in the world.�

Torbati said Iran is to bring the strength of its gas pipelines to 45,000 kilometers from the current 36,000 kilometers by 2025.

He said Iran needs to invest $62.5 billion in its gas industry in the coming four years.
