TEHRAN (Tasnim) � Iran's first domestically-made oil spill response vessel named "Daryapak 1" was launched on Sunday in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

The vessel with a length of 13 meters and a width of 5.5m can carry 22 crew members and is capable of collecting 550 cubic meters of contaminants, like oil spills, from water.

Daryapak 1 has a four-meter draft and a maximum speed of 16 knot (30 kh).� It is among the most advanced vessels designed and manufactured in the country, and can be used for cleaning up polluted waters in a short time.

The vessel is equipped with two propulsion systems with a 360-degree angle for faster cleaning of oil spills to a depth of 25 meters.

In recent years, Iran has made great headways in manufacturing a range of civilian and military vessels.

In 2014, Iran's second home-made ocean-going cargo ship, named 'Iran Shahr-E-Kord', was successfully tested in the waters off the country's southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

With a length of 187 meters and a width of 30 meters, the ship has the capacity to carry 2,200 containers.
