Iran launches Caspian shipping line

Iran said on Saturday that it had launched a shipping line in the Caspian Sea to ferry goods to Russia and Kazakhstan.

Valiollah Afkhamirad, the head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPOI), said the shipping line will be meant to increase the competitiveness conditions for Iranian businessmen in Caspian target markets.

Afkhamirad added that Iranian exporters will from now on be able to supply their goods to Caspian markets at competitive prices, IRNA reported.

The official further added that delays in shipment of goods have always been a serious problem for Iranian exporters. When exporters are not able to deliver their cargos on time, they will gradually lose their market, he said. Therefore, it is always necessary to regulate the shipment of cargos from Iran and vice versa, Afkhamirad added.

Also, Mohammad Hossein Dajmar, the managing director of the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), told reporters that the Caspian shipping line has a transportation capacity of 18,000 to 36,000 tons of goods in a week.

Dajmar added that six seafaring journeys will be carried from Iranian ports to Russia and Kazakhstan every month within the new shipping line.
