Velayati: Iran determined to continue nuclear talks

Tehran, May 31, IRNA Advisor to Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution for International Affairs Ali-Akbar Velayati, said in Tehran on Sunday that the Islamic Republic of Iran is determined to continue nuclear talks, hoping highly that the talks will produce positive and favorable results.

Speaking in a meeting with a group of Jordanian mediapersons, Velayati said, 'We are firmly resolute to continue the talks, strongly hoping for positive and favorable results; however, we will not succumb to any pressure.'

He said talks have a series of conditions, one of them is not accepting military sites inspeciton.

Velayati said, 'Other condition is that we will not accept any interrogation and questioning of nuclear scientists and these two are our important conditions.'

He hoped that talks will bear fruits until the specified deadline.

He added, 'Of course, we do not know for sure whether the talks will produce any result if Americans makes excessive demands each time or we should continue expecting new demands on their part each time.'

He added that definitely, nothing contrary to Iran's 35-year policy of supporting resistance, will be done because support at the time of resistance is a policy aropted by the late Imam Khomeini and supported by the Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution at the present time which will continue in the future.

Velayati said the principles of the Islamic Republic of Iran necessitates defending Islamic Ummah and of Muslim countries.

To a question on plots to partition Iraq and Syria, Velayati said the distinguished policy of the colonialism is 'divide and rule.' 'This is evident to all because the colonial states have never abandoned such a policy.'

'We should cooperate with each other as Muslim and Middle East countries and all should oppose any kind of disintegration and division of countries.'

Velayati referred to the US Congress decision on Iraq's division into three parts and said Americans decide on the issue in their own congress but definitely, the Iraqi people will not allow such a thing happen.

He said the US tried to enforce its decisions through Iraqi Kurds. 'They made deals with Kuds residing in northern Iraqi Kurds but suddenly, Daesh terrorists appeared and begand to attack the Kurds. It was at that time when Iran rushed to the held of the Iraqi Kurds and blocked the advance of the terrorist towards Erbil. Had it not been for Iran's help, the region would have been collapsed.'

Elsewhere in his remarks, Velayati said definitely, Iran opposes partition of Muslim countries, especially those in the region, and the Iraqi people will not give such a permission.

'We should help such this country so that its people, including Shiites, Sunnis, Kurds and all other ethnic groups can live a peaceful life.'

Deploring the present chaotic conditions in Libya, Velayati said, 'Unfortunately, the country is likely to be divided but we hope that such a thing will not happen.'
