Iranian nuclear negotiator: Expert talks in Vienna fruitful

TEHRAN (Tasnim) - Head of the Iranian team of nuclear experts described as useful an expert meeting in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Tuesday, a day before the start of deputy-level negotiations to resume drafting the text of a final agreement on Iran's peaceful nuclear program.

"Useful discussions were held in the meeting," Hamid Baeedinejad, the director general for political and international affairs at Iran's foreign ministry told IRIB after a two-hour meeting of experts in Vienna on Tuesday night.

His comments came before a new round of diplomatic talks with the purpose of drafting the text of the comprehensive accord on Tehran's nuclear program, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Iranian deputies foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht Ravanchi, are going to meet European Union Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Helga Schmidt in the Austrian city on Wednesday.

The EU coordinates diplomacy with Iran on behalf of the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, France, US, Britain, and Germany).

Iran and the six powers are in talks to hammer out a lasting accord that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's civilian nuclear program.

On April 2, the two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.
