Iran dismisses media claims that Tehran had sent troops to Iraq to help fight the Islamic State.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian dismissed recent media claims on Monday that Tehran had sent troops to Iraq to help fight the Islamic State.
“We have not sent any armed troops or fighters to Iraq,” Amir-Abdollahian said at a press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya press center in Moscow.
According to the deputy foreign minister, Iran has only deployed military advisers in the country after receiving a request from the Iraqi government.
