TEHRAN, May 25 (MNA) – Secretary General for Iranian National Commission for UNESCO has said Iran is to host an international conference on drought attended by global and regional experts.
Secretary General for Iranian National Commission for UNESCO Mohammadreza Saeidabadi said Iran has been gripped with drought in recent years and as such it has been put in charge of UNESCO’s International Drought Initiative (IDI) in the region.
Iranian National Commission for UNESCO and the Ministry of Energy are taking part in the implementation of the IDI.
Saeidabadi maintained the IDI would enable the exchange of scientific information, as well as global and regional cooperation on drought and the future of the region.
Iranian National Commission for UNESCO has established various regional and international institutions in the field of water and created university chairs in the country to follow up on water issues, he said.
The International Conference on Drought will take place in Iran in late June, 2015.
