Iran ready to counter threats: Navy commander

Tehran, May 24, IRNA The Iranian nation is prepared to stand against any type of threat, Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Sunday.

He made the remarks in a ceremony held to pay tribute to war veterans for their sacrifices.

Full security in Iran is assured and Tehran is powerful enough to stand against any type of aggression, the commander added.

He underlined that Iran as an independent state will continue its progress forward and its young children are ready to counter any type of threats.

Sayyari said that Iran is a key player in the region.

President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated the 8th national congress to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by the war veterans here on Sunday morning.

The congress is held on the occasion of Khordad 3 (May 24) which marks the liberation anniversary of the city of Khorramshahr in 1982 which had been occupied by the forces of Iraq under the then dictator Saddam Hussein.

Family members of 1,500 martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the liberation operation attended the event.

A photo exhibition is also held on the sidelines of the meeting.
