Iranian Army test-fires missiles in drill: Cmdr.

The IranianArmys Ground Forces have successfully staged major missile maneuversin central Iran, says a senior commander.

The exercisecodenamed Beit-ul-Muqaddas 27was held in a desert area in the city of Kashan and sawthe successful test-firing of missiles whichhit predetermined targets, Armys Ground Forces Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan told IRNA on Saturday.

The M6, M10 and Fajr missiles were fired in the drill, he added.

The Army's Ground Forceshave improved their missile capabilities which would be put to the testduring various stages of the maneuvers.

The exercises also involvedrone units of theGround Forces, said the top commander.

The final stage of the drills tobe held in [the central city of] Isfahan will featureall units of the Ground Forces, Pourdastan said.

He added that the Ground Forces are displaying their might by staging the maneuvers and will show that we will nip in the bud any aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Beit-ul-Muqaddas 27 drill beganin three locationson May 21 and will end on May 27.

Thatdrillmarked the 26th anniversary of the liberation of the southwestern city of Khorramshahr during the eight-year imposed war with Iraq.

In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.

Iran has also conducted other major military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its armed forces and to test modern military tactics and state-of-the-art army equipment.

The Islamic Republic maintains that its military might poses no threat to other countries, stating that its defense doctrine is merely based on deterrence.
