Dr. Shahin Akhundzadeh made the remarks at the third National Congress on Cellular and Molecular Latest Achievements in Non-Contagious Diseases that took place today in Babol University of Medical Sciences, Mazandaran Province.
Noting that Iran and other developing countries are more gripped with non-contagious diseases as opposed to the contagious ones, Akhundzadeh added the main non-contagious diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease require further investment and research that will yield to great financial benefits for the country.
He maintained that Babol University of Medical Sciences is one of the countrys best universities in clinical research and has a long history in efficient activities in the field.
Departments of stem cells in Iran like Royan institute for Stem Cell Biology and Technology (RI-SCBT)as the countrys leading stem cell research center and one of its best infertility clinics, efficiently put stem cell research findings into operation in disease treatment to increase the level of health.
The institutes provide a comprehensive and coordinated approach to regenerative medicine, including a greater understanding of fundamental biology of stem cells, developmental biology, tissue engineering programs, the development of translational research of stem cell therapeutics, and administration of new cell therapiesapproaches that can restore tissue function to patients.
Among Islamic countries, Iran has recently emerged as a pioneer in human embryonic stem (hES)cell research. Iranian scientists are able to investigate the properties and characteristics of hES cells with a much greater freedom than researchers from many other countries.
