Iran, Iraq labor ministers sign cooperation MoU

Labor ministers of Iran and Iraq have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), emphasizing the necessity of more cooperation and coordination between the two countries for the promotion of workers rights.

Iranian Labor Minister Ali Rabiei and his Iraqi counterpart, Mohammed al-Sudani, signed the MoU during a ceremony held in the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad on Tuesday.

According to the MoU, the two countries have agreed to take coordinated efforts within framework of the Non-Aligned Movement and the Asia-Pacific Group to promote labor cooperation among member states.

The two countries have also agreed to take active part in International Labor Conference to defend the rights of Palestinian laborers.

Exchange of information for formulating occupational standards, creating new jobs, promoting entrepreneurship, and supporting small and medium enterprises were among other topics agreed upon by the two neighbors.

The two ministers then took part in a joint press conference, in which Rabiei said high-level diplomatic exchanges between the two countries will help secure the interests of the Iranian and Iraqi nations and other countries in the region.

He added that according to the memorandum of understanding, Iran and Iraq will embark on educational exchanges as well as exchange of experiences and students to uplift technical and occupational standards in both countries.

Rabiei said Iran has accepted to help Iraq with regard to occupational training and send special training groups to its western neighbor.

The Iranian labor minister arrived in the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad for an official visit on Monday and is expected to meet with the Iraqi deputy prime minister later today.
