Saudi genocide in Yemen is against int'l norms: Afkham

Tehran, May 10, IRNA Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham on Sunday condemned Saudi airstrikes on Yemen as an act of genocide and against international regulations.

Afkham strongly criticized continued air raids on Yemen by the Saudi-led coalition, particularly bombardment of populous residential areas in northern parts of the country.

She said that targeting civilian centers for more than forty days and using banned munitions aimed at increasing the death toll run counter to international regulations.

The Foreign Ministry spokeswoman called for a more active contribution of the United Nations to stop the aggression on the innocent people of Yemen and to accelerate the process of supplying humanitarian aid to the war-hit Yemeni nation.

All the responsible organizations are expected to immediately step in and prevent the continuation of a humanitarian catastrophe in Yemen, Afkham said.

She said Iran has coordinated to send its humanitarian aid to Yemen through a new route and hopes that its humanitarian supplies would reach Yemeni people without any problem.
