TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Marziyeh Afkham denounced recent remarks made by the Saudi Arabian foreign minister against Iran as “repetitive”, and stressed that Riyadh is trying to divert public attention from its crimes in Yemen.

“These comments are aimed at diverting attention and are based on a series of repetitive and useless analyses,” Afkham said, referring to the remarks made on Thursday by Saudi Adel al-Jubeir, who accused Iran of playing a negative role in Yemen.

The Saudi official claims that Iran is meddling in Yemen, while it is more than 40 days that Yemen has continuously been under military attacks by Riyadh and its allies, who seek their interests in the Arabian Peninsula country, she noted.

Afkham emphasized that the Yemenis, like all independent nations will not allow any country to interfere in their internal affairs under any pretext.

She further slammed the Saudi regime for imposing a land, sea and air siege on Yemen, saying that the regime has taken hostage the Yemeni people by the siege.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies began to militarily interfere in Yemen's internal affairs by launching deadly air strikes against the Houthi Ansarullah movement in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.

The Saudi-led coalition announced on April 21 that its military operation "Decisive Storm" has ended, but hours later, air strikes and ground fighting resumed.

According to the spokesman of the Yemeni Army, the Saudi-led war on the Arab country has killed 2,051 people, most of them civilians.
