Iran, EU to resume writing text of final agreement on Thursday

Tehran, April 30, IRNA Iran and Europe are to resume talks in New York on Thursday on drafting the text of the final comprehensive agreement.

The today round of nuclear talks will be held between the Iranian Deputy Foreign Ministers Abbas Araqchi and Majid Takht-e Ravanchi and the EU Deputy Foreign Policy Chief Helga Schmidt.

Araqchi and Schmidt began talks on writing the text of final agreement in Vienna, Switzerland, on April 22.

Today in New York, the two sides are in the first place to discuss ways of lifting sanctions against Iran; a task that Araqchi has already termed as 'complicated'.

The two sides will resume the drafting task today from the point left in Vienna.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said at New York University on Wednesday that once Iran and the six world powers manage to reach an agreement by the end of June, the UN Security Council will ratify it by issuing a resolution few days later.

So, according to that resolution, all previous resolutions (against Iran) including those insisting on sanctions will be annulled, Zarif said.

Since negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 in the Swiss city of Lausanne on April 2, the European Union has tried to play a more active role in the nuclear talks by backing bilateral talks between Iran and the US as well as the trilateral ones between Iran, US and the EU.

EU's Foreign Policy Chief Federica Mogherini in her meeting with the US Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday stressed that final steps to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement with Iran is vital for the EU.

Kerry, too, said cooperation with the EU on Iran's nuclear case was a priority for America.
