Zahedan, Sistan-Balouchestan Prov., April 28, IRNA Energy Minister Hamid Chitchian said in Zahedan on Tuesday that operations will start this year for construction of power plants with a total capacities of 10,000 megawatts.




'Fall in the volume of investments in the past years resulted in drop of power generation output to 2,000 megawatts in 1393 (March 2014-March 2015) from 5,800 megawatts earlier and now we try to make a jump this year and build power plants with capacities of about 10,000 megawatts,' Chitchian said at the inaugural ceremony of the 20th National Conference on Power and Electricity Distribution Networks in Zahedan.

He said the Government of Hope and Prudence tries to build such power plants, that will join the national power grid in coming years.

Ira'sn electricity industry ranks 14th in the world and first in the Middle East in terms of power generation.

Iran is the largest exporter and importer of electricity in the Middle East and is exchanging power with many countries in the region.

Almost 99 percent of the equipment required for power generation, transfer and distribution are domestically designed and produced.
