Iran, group 5+1 start drafting final nuclear deal: Negotiator

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Iranian Foreign Ministry's Director General for the Political and International Affairs Hamid Baeidinejad said Iran and world powers have started drafting the text of a long-awaited final deal on Tehran's atomic energy program.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (the five permanent UNSC members plus Germany) have started drafting the final nuclear deal with several meetings held between the two sides, Baeidinejad, who is also a member of Iranian negotiating team, said Wednesday night.

Delegates representing Iran, the European Union, and the Group 5+1 (also known as E3+3 and P5+1) began a fresh round of negotiations in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Wednesday.

The talks, co-chaired by Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and the EU deputy secretary general for the external action service, Helga Maria Schmid, kicked off at 2 p.m. local time.

Araqchi announced earlier that the Vienna talks will deal mainly with the issue of "sanctions" in a comprehensive deal that Tehran and the Group 5+1 (also known as P5+1 and E3+3) are trying to reach.

In similar remarks, Baeidinejad told the IRIB news agency that the issue of sanctions tops Iran's agenda in the new round of talks with the world powers, adding that Tehran needs "clear details" on how sanctions are to be terminated.

Iran and the sextet are in talks to hammer out a lasting accord that would end more than a decade of impasse over Tehran's peaceful nuclear energy program.

On April 2, the two sides reached a framework nuclear agreement after more than a week of intensive negotiations in Lausanne, Switzerland, with both sides committed to push for a final deal until the end of June.
