IOPTC realizes targets by 80 percent

TEHRAN April 22 (Shana)--Iran Oil Pipeline and Telecommunications Company (IOPTC) succeeded in realization of its targets related to doing repairs, changing and coating pipelines by 80 percent last year, IOPTC chief said.

Speaking to Shana, Darioush Amirsardari Goudarzi said last year the company pursued smart pigging in several phases and the results will constitute the basis for doing repairs this year with removing corrosions as priority.
Regular pigging last year enabled the company to reduce environmental pollution to the lowest level, he said.
Amirsardari said the fifth phase of pigging operations will start in 2017 covering 4.000 km of oil products transfer pipelines.
According to him, safe and sustainable transfer of crude oil and oil products depend on using pigging to clean pipelines.

Pigging is used in oil and gas pipelines to clean the pipes. There are also 'smart pigs' used to inspect pipelines for the purpose of preventing leaks that can be explosive and dangerous to the environment. They usually do not interrupt production, though some product can be lost when the pig is extracted.
