Iran to intensify border control: Government spokesman

Tehran, April 21, IRNA - Government Spokesman Mohammad Bagher Nobakht said in a weekly press conference on Tuesday that there are plans to fortify border areas to prevent entrance of terrorists.

The Government has plans to intensify border controls especially in the eastern parts of the country where control over other sides of borders is weak, he added.

The official said that Iran has repeatedly requested neighboring countries to strengthen control over borders in order to prevent terrorists' entrance to Iran's soil.

Speaking about President Hassan Rouhani's visit to Indonesia, Nobakht said that the current low oil price is politically motivated and Tehran will do its best to return stability to the oil market.

The Government will continue pursuing the case of sexual harassment of two Iranian teenage boys by the Saudi policemen at Jeddah airport, he said in reply to a question.

The Government spokesperson underlined that Umrah hajj pilgrimage has been suspended until the perpetrators behind the sexual assault are brought to justice.

Referring to the recent visit to China by Iran's Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, he called the trip very fruitful for financing domestic projects.

All Iranians abroad are welcome to return back except for those who are guilty of committing crimes, he said.

Speaking about Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's visit to Iran, he said that Afghan president has promised to help return of refugees to their hometown.

Iran aims to legalize presence of foreign nationals including Afghans in its territory, the official said.

The Head of the Management and Planning Organization dismissed reports that the government has cut subsidies to five high-income social groups.

Earlier in the day, some sources had reported that cash subsidies to medical practitioners, owners of luxury automobiles, foreign exchange dealers, and even those Iranians who had travelled overseas had been withheld.
