This was announced Wednesday by the managing director of the Pars Special Economic Energy Zone (PSEEZ) where the giant gas reservoir is located, IRNA reported.
Mehdi Yousefi also said Irans Ministry of Petroleum has been making efforts to complete all the 29 phases of the South Pars mega-project so that the country would be able to produce a daily amount of 800 million cubic meters (mcm/d) of natural gas within the next couple of years.
Irans current gas output reportedly stands at 600 mcm/d, while its consumption adds up to about 500 mcm/d, which is expected to hit 900 mcm/d in coming years.
Last month, Iran officially launched Phase 12 (the main phase) of the supergiant offshore gas field in the Persian Gulf.
Phase 12 of South Pars is estimated to raise the countrys gross domestic product(GPD) by about two percent and is said to produce over 80 mcm/d of sweet gas.
South Pars holds 40 tcm of natural gas, or 21% of the worlds total gas reserves, and 50 billion barrels of condensate.
It covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Irans territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers are situated in Qatars territorial waters.
