A senior Iranian diplomat has warned against the fallout of Saudi Arabia’s illegal military campaign against Yemen, saying it is a conspiracy that aims to disintegrate Saudi Arabia.
“The enemies of the [Middle East] region are unfortunately trying to disintegrate and weaken Saudi Arabia, and the aggression against Yemen and its consequences are the start point of this ominous plot,” Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Sunday.
He called on the United States to stop pursuing dual policies in the Middle East and recommended Saudi Arabia to stop counting on Washington’s help in Yemen.
The Iranian diplomat warned that the continuation of Saudi aggression against Yemen would lead to “inevitable consequences,” adding that Saudi Arabia is playing with regional security by attacking Yemen.
He called for an immediate end to Riyadh’s airstrikes against Sana’a, saying, “The dispatch of humanitarian aid [to Yemen] and national dialog are the only solution to Yemen [conflict].”
Reiterating Iran’s policy of security, peace and stability for the region, Amir-Abdollahian said the United Arab Emirates’ support for Saudi Arabia’s “wrong warmongering policy is surprising.”
The UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, on Wednesday made unfounded allegations against Iran, claiming that the Islamic Republic is meddling in Yemen and other countries in the region such as Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The Iranian diplomat further rejected as “incorrect” claims about the arrest of two Iranian forces in Yemen’s southern city of Aden and said, “Iran has no military forces in Yemen.”
Saudi Arabia’s air campaign against Yemen started on March 26 without a UN mandate in a bid to restore power to Yemen’s former fugitive president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, a close ally of Riyadh.
According to sources close to the Ansarullah movement, at least 1,000 people, including 200 children, have been killed in Yemen since the beginning of Saudi aggression.
