Lavrov hopes Iranian nuclear agreement to reach juridical stage by July

Moscow hopes that the agreement on Irans nuclear program will shift from the current political stage to the juridical stage by the end of June, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) During a joint press conference with Belgian Foreign Minister Didier Reynders, Sergei Lavrov expressed hopes that the political agreement will move to the level of juridical documents by July:

Its believed that the political agreement [] will move on to the [stage] of practical juridical documents at the agreed upon term, that is at the end of June of this year.

On April 2, Iran and the P5+1 group of international mediators reached an interim deal on Tehran's nuclear program after marathon talks in Switzerland.

According to last week's announcement, Tehran agreed to cut back its uranium enrichment and decrease the number of centrifuges in the country. In return, the United States, the European Union and the UN Security Council agreed to lift their nuclear-related sanctions following verification by the International Atomic Energy Agency of Tehran's implementation of the agreements.

On Thursday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani stressed that Tehran will refuse to sign a final agreement on its nuclear program reached by the P5+1 Group if sanctions against Iran are not fully lifted.
Sanctions imposed on Iran, amid allegations that Tehran was trying to hide from the international community its development of a nuclear weapon, have been in place for years, though Iran reiterated its nuclear energy program is entirely peaceful.
