Allowing enrichment to Iran key in reaching deal with Tehran - Official

Irans agreement to a nuclear deal framework was based on concessions on domestic uranium enrichment, not economic sanctions, former Head of Irans National Security Council Seyed Hossein Mousavian said in a conference at the National Council on US-Arab Relations.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) The United States and other P5+1 countries agreed ona preliminary framework withIran overthe dimensions ofits nuclear program last week. According toa fact sheet released bythe United States, Iran will be allowed toenrich uranium upto 3.67 percent forthe next 15 years. The only thing that really made the framework possible was first, the US agreed toIran tohave [uranium] enrichment forits domestic practical needs, Mousavian stated onWednesday.

The former head ofthe Iranian National Security Council argued that because ofthe concessions onenrichment, Iran was willing togive every confidence building measure toprove its nuclear program is not intended forweaponization.

US lawmakers have wrongfully attributed Irans willingness tonegotiate tothe tough economic sanctions imposed onthe country, Mousavian explained.

This narrative still has not been corrected inthe US Congress, he said. US Congressmen sayIran only came todeal because ofsanctions pressures. There is a big misunderstanding.

Rather thanfacilitating negotiations, further coercion bythe United States would make Iran more aggressive, Mousavian warned. If there is more opening up, more cooperation, Iranians, they make a deal.
