According to the Gray Lady, Netanyahu wants to sabotage the negotiations with Iran by presenting new demands that would be tantamount to a complete shutting down of Irans nuclear facilities.

The New York Timeseditorial board on Wednesday criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for making unrealistic demands to alter the framework nuclear agreement struck between Iran and the Western powers.

According to the Gray Lady, Netanyahu is deliberately seeking to sabotage the negotiations with Iran by presenting new demands that would be tantamount to a complete shutting down of Irans nuclear facilities.

Mr. Netanyahu is acting as if he alone can dictate the terms of an agreement that took 18 months and involved not just Iran and the United States but Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China, the editorial read. He wants to appear reasonable...But he offers no workable options.

In any negotiation, there could never be a deal without compromise, the Times wrote. It would be preferable if every vestige of Irans nuclear program were eradicated. But that was never going to happen, not least because Irans know-how could never be erased.

The newspaper insists that US President Barack Obama obtained an agreement that offers the best potential for preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

Irans leaders would not accept a deal in which they did not maintain some elements of a nuclear program tailored for energy and medical purposes - not weapons, the Times wrote. Ultimately, Mr. Obama had to make many judgment calls in getting a deal that would prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.
