Lavrov returns to Switzerland for Iran nuclear talks

Tuesday is the self-imposed deadline for establishing a political framework for an agreement ensuring the peaceful nature of the Iranian nuclear energy program.

LAUSANNE (Sputnik) Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has returned toSwitzerland fortalks betweenTehran and six world powers onIran's nuclear ambitions.
According toa Sputnik correspondent, his plane has landed inGeneva.

Earlier inthe day, Lavrov said he would return toSwitzerland afterhaving left Monday evening formeetings inMoscow. Russia's top diplomat stated that he would be present atthe final meeting ofP5+1 group foreign ministers.

The P5+1 group ofinternational mediators, comprising Russia, the United Kingdom, France, China, the United States and Germany, are attempting toconvince Iran tohalt its uranium enrichment program formore thanten years and decrease the number ofcentrifuges.
Initially, Tehran insisted onhaving atleast 10,000 centrifuges, butin February agreed toconsider a US proposal ofcutting the number to6,500.

Iran and the P5+1 group have held several rounds oftalks onTehran's nuclear program sinceNovember 2013 withlimited results. The negotiators are now working towardsthe July 1 deadline toforge a final agreement.
