Iranian official sees possibility of agreement on basic issues

Tehran, March 31, IRNA Member of the Iranian nuclear negotiations team Hamid Baeedinejad has said there is the possibility of working out an agreement on basic issues during the present course of talks underway in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The diplomat told reporters in Lausanne on Monday night that more meetings are needed before coming to an agreement, according to a report carried by Itar-Tass.

He said all parties involved in the talks are working hard to find solutions to the remaining issues.

The Iranian official added new developments are expected to be made any time during Tuesday meetings.

He said delegations in the talks keep on exchanging texts and discussing issues and continue with their marathon sessions in a bid to develop an agreement.

Commenting on the future of talks if the negotiating parties fail to come to an agreement by the end of the March 31 deadline on midnight Tuesday, the diplomat said there is no talk of this kind and everybody is concentrating on ways to work out a solution without losing any opportunities.

As for the nature of the remaining points of differences (wether they are political or technical), Baeedinejad said the issues discussed in the ministerial level meetings are more of political nature than technical.

Meanwhile, Itar-Tass carried a story on Monday claiming that a political deal on Iranian nuclear dispute will be most probably signed soon, possibly on Tuesday.

Quoting a European diplomat, it had said that Lausanne talks between Iran and the G5+1 may proceed until midnight.

Itar-Tass further qouted the diplomat, who is involved in the Iran-G5+1 nuclear talks, as saying that if the deal was reached, it would be signed on Wednesday morning.

Earlier media reports have also speculated that political agreement on Iran nuclear dispute will be a two or three-page document.

However, Irans Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said on Monday that no text of agreement was drafted yet.

Araqchi said no deal on the Iranian nuclear program has been struck yet but many issues have been resolved.

Iran's foreign minister and counterparts from the P5+1 countries ended their full ministerial meeting in the Swiss town of Lausanne on Monday without disclosing any details.

The 90-minute talks started at 09:00 hours local time between the two sides.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, US Secretary of State John Kerry, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammondn, and EU High Representative Federica Mogherini were present in the meeting.

Iran demands that all sanctions and UN resolutions imposing restrictions against Tehran be scrapped as part of its nuclear deal with major world powers.
