Lavrov to meet with Mogherini, Steinmeier Monday in Lausanne

According to a source in the Russian delegation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold a bilateral meeting with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier and is then expected to meet EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini on Monday within the P5+1 negotiations on Iran's nuclear program in Lausanne.


LAUSANNE (Sputnik)Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold a bilateral meeting withhis German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier and is then expected tomeet EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini onMonday withinthe P5+1 negotiations onIran's nuclear program inLausanne, a source inthe Russian delegation told Sputnik.

"Lavrov will meet Steinmeier fora working lunch, afterwards he has a meeting planned withMogherini," the source told Sputnik.

According tothe source, Lavrov will leave Lausanne inthe evening. The minister may return Tuesday if the P5+1 group reaches an agreement, the source said.

Earlier onMonday, Lavrov held bilateral meetings withUS Secretary ofState John Kerry, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

All the meetings are held onthe sidelines oftalks betweenIran and the P5+1 group ofinternational mediators, comprising the United States, the United Kingdom, France, China, Russia and Germany.

The goal ofthe negotiations is towork outa framework agreement byMarch 31 ahead ofan overall agreement expected inJune.

The UN Security Council and a number ofcountries have imposed several rounds ofsanctions onIran, accusing the country ofdeveloping nuclear weapons. Tehran has repeatedly rejected those claims, stating that its uranium enrichment program is forpeaceful energy purposes only.
