Russia hopes Yemen crisis causes no discord at Iran nuclear talks

Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov hopes that the events in Yemen and around it will not make the Iran's nuclear program talks participants change their positions.
LAUSANNE (Sputnik) Moscow hopes that negotiators inthe Iran nuclear talks will not have a change ofheart due tothe ongoing Yemeni crisis that has taken its toll onthe atmosphere ofthis round, Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said Saturday."Unfortunately we see that the drama, even tragedy unfolding inthis country [Yemen] has influence onthe atmosphere ofthese talks," the Russian senior negotiator said ata press briefing inLausanne, Switzerland.

"Hopefully, the events inYemen and aroundit will not make the talks' participants change their positions," he added.

The Russian envoy was speaking atBeau Rivage Hotel where delegations fromIran and the group ofsix mediators Britain, France, China, Russia, the United States and Germany are meeting fora roundof talks asthe next deadline looms. The nations have untilMarch 31 toagree ona preliminary deal, tobe followed bya comprehensive accord insummer.The situation inYemen has been rapidly deteriorating sinceAugust 2014 when protests ofthe Shiite Houthi opposition swept the country, leading tothe ouster ofPresident Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

On Wednesday, Hadi asked the Arab League ofGulf countries formilitary help. The same day, a Saudi-led coalition launched a military operation inYemen tohelp roll back Houthi insurgency.
