German FM heading to Lausanne to join Iran talks

Berlin, Mar 28, IRNA -- German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier departed Berlin on Saturday morning to join the Iran nuclear talks in Lausanne, a Foreign Ministry spokesman told IRNA.

The minister is currently on his way to Lausanne, he added.

On Friday, German Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Martin Schaefer said there was 'realistic hope' for a political agreement on a nuclear accord could be reached by the March 31 deadline.

He reaffirmed an agreement was 'within reach' for the first time since the negotiations started 12 years ago.

Schaefer voiced hope that a comprehensive nuclear deal would also pave the way for a closer political as well as economic cooperation with Iran.
