Iran on nuclear talks: 'The ball is on the other side'

The Western countries should choose between the reality and the illusion, a senior Iranian diplomat said looking with optimism at the nuclear energy talks.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Tehran is optimistic aboutthe progress oftalks withP5+1 international mediators onIranian nuclear program and expects the West toassume a realistic approach tothe proposed comprehensive nuclear agreement, a senior Iranian diplomat said Wednesday.


"The ball is now onthe other side. The Western countries must take realistic decisions onthis issue [preparation ofnuclear deal]," Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister forArab-African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdollahian told reporters followinga meeting withRussian lawmakers inMoscow.

Abdollahian said the Iranian side had an optimistic outlook onthe result and the progress ofthe talks.

"The decision is not that difficult. They must simply choose betweenthe reality and the illusion," the diplomat said, adding that the date forthe next roundof nuclear talks atthe ministerial level had not been determined yet.

The talks betweenIran and the P5+1 group, comprising Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, France and Germany, have been taking place formore thana year. The negotiating parties aim toguarantee a peaceful nature ofTehran's nuclear program.

Tehran and the international mediators are expected toreach a political framework agreement onthe nuclear issue inMarch, and a long-term comprehensive deal byJuly.

On March 21, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said that the negotiators had resolved some major issues that blocked a deal onIran's nuclear activities, withTehran willing tocontinue the negotiations.

The next roundof talks is set tokick offon March 26 inthe city ofLausanne, Switzerland.
