Iran, P5+1 make little progress in talks, sides far from signing

The P5+1 group of nuclear negotiators and Iran did not reach serious progress in making deal, according to the head of the French delegation, Nicolas de Riviere.
LAUSANNE (Sputnik) The P5+1 group ofnuclear negotiators and Iran have so far failed toachieve serious progress atthe ongoing nuclear talks and are far fromreaching a deal, the head ofthe French delegation, Nicolas de Riviere, said.


We are far fromthe deal. Side has not reached serious progress yet, De Riviere said.

According tothe diplomat, the sides consider once again extending the deadline fora political framework deal.

The new roundof talks onIrans nuclear program began Sunday inLausanne.

Following talks withhis US counterpart onTuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said the sides have better understanding, butthere is no clear solution tosatisfy both parties.Iran and six world powers, including five UN Security Council members Russia, the United States, France, China and the United Kingdom aswell asGermany, have been trying toreach a deal guaranteeing a nuclear weapon-free Iran inexchange foreasing long-standing sanctions onthe country.

Earlier negotiators agreed toagree ona political framework byMarch 24. The deadline fora long-term comprehensive agreement onIran's nuclear program is July.
