Berlin, March 18, IRNA -- German foreign ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer expressed hope that a political agreement on a final nuclear accord would be reached as early as this weekend.

Asked by IRNA on prospects for an imminent deal, Schaefer said the German government was still interested in an agreement -- preferably by the end of this week -- which would then pave the way for technical talks on a final comprehensive nuclear accord by the end of June.

The goal is to make as much progress as possible in these days, to be able to dwell on the technical questions. However, we have not achieved yet a breakthrough, Schaefer added.

The German diplomat pointed out even though both sides have come a long way, the last meters were most decisive and most difficult as well.
